| Derby-based consulting engineers, GCA (UK) Ltd have strengthened their team with the appointment of Shane Martin as Road Traffic Engineer. Shane joins GCA from Leicestershire County Council where he spent five years in the Accident Investigation & Prevention Team. During this time Shane was responsible for identifying and investigating accident sites to establish accident causation factors as well as undertaking Road Safety Audits. This included compiling reports, and liaising with County and District Councils, the Department for Transport, Police and the Highways Agency in relation to road safety issues and traffic accident investigation. The work also involes studying accident blackspots, accident clusters and route studies which in turn leads to a road safety strategy.uring this time Shane also obtained a ONC and HNC in Civil Engineering as well as undertaking more specific training including the highly regarded ROSPA AiP course. In his new role Shane will be responsible for gathering information from accident investigation sites and compiling reports as well as liasing with the County and District Councils, the Department for Transport, Police and the Highways Agency in relation to road safety issues. Commenting on Shane’s appointment, Nicky Collett, director of GCA said: “I would like to welcome Shane to GCA. He has a wide range of experience in road safety auditing and will make a valuable addition to the team. Although he will be based in Derby, he will also be serving our offices in Warwick, Worcester, Stafford and Leicester.” Shane added: “I am delighted to be joining GCA and look forward to developing my road safety auditing skills in such a varied role. Going from public to private sector will be an exciting challenge that I hope both GCA and myself will greatly benefit from.” GCA was founded in 1975 and now majors on four separate disciplines including traditional civil and structural engineering services, highway and infrastructure design, transportation and safety engineering, together with a range of expert witness services for the legal profession.
